The Incommunicable Name

Image
The Incommunicable Name of God, its meaning and significance, according to Joseph Bryant Rotherham . The following article is from the Introduction to the 1902 edition of  The  Emphasized  Bible  by Joseph Bryant Rotherham ( Public Domain ). It explains the background and meaning of the Hebrew name of God,  Yahweh , and the key reasons why it has been lost to a great many Christians over the centuries.

Jesus Saves!

The Good News announced by Jesus offers salvation and life to men and women of every nation and people . Jesus of Nazareth declared: “ All authority in heaven and on earth is given to me, therefore, go and make disciples of all nations .” He then sent his disciples to announce the salvation purchased by his death to the “ ends of the Earth .” The Age of Salvation commenced with his Death and Resurrection; therefore, his  life-giving  message must be announced to all men. The Son of God has achieved salvation for his people!

Sein Name ist Jesus!

Jesus bedeutet 'Jahwe rettet.

Recognizing Jesus

Image
It was only when he died that the Roman centurion in charge of the execution recognized that Jesus was the Son of God . Everyone in the Gospel of Mark is incapable of recognizing who Jesus is, except for John the Baptist, Peter (momentarily), and the Roman centurion at his execution, and Peter’s moment of insight proved fleeting. Even the Baptist began to question the identity of Christ when he was imprisoned by Herod Antipas.

Shining in the Darkness

Image
“ Life ” is found in the “ Word ” or ‘ Logos ,’ and this life is the “ Light of Men .” It is “ shining in the darkness .” This “ light ” has become the Living Word of God in the man, Jesus of Nazareth, in whom the glory and life of God are fully manifested. Therefore, this Divine “ Word ” is both life and life-giving - (John 1:1, 1 John 1:5).

Light and Life

Jesus is the only true Light of the World, and his light shines all the brighter amidst the darkness that tyrannizes the present age. All competing claims are false . “ Life ” is found in the “ Word ” or ‘ Logos ’ (λογος), and this life is the “ Light of men .” The Light is “ shining in the darkness ,” and the darkness “ cannot seize ” or suppress it. This same “ Word ” has become the Living Word of God in Jesus of Nazareth, in whom the glory, salvation, and life of God are manifested for all men to see - (John 1:1).

Spirit and Life

The  Gospel of John  identifies Jesus as the  Logos , the “ Word ” through which God made all things. This theme is threaded throughout  John  and builds on traditional ideas from the Hebrew Bible about how God created the Universe, especially life through His spoken Word. Jesus of Nazareth is the ultimate expression of that Word and the Living God.

The Salvation of the Lord

Image
'Jesus’ means “Yahweh saves.” In the man of Nazareth, the salvation promised by the God of Abraham has arrived . The child carried by Mary was “ begotten of the Holy Spirit ,” and Joseph was instructed to name this child ‘Jesus’: “ Call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins .” The name announced by the angel pointed to the saving act of God that was about to unfold in history – (Matthew 1:20-23).
